Vermont trooper Jay Riggen costs $175k after arrest for bird
In February 2018, Gregory Bombard was illegally pulled over, arrested, and locked up for swearing and giving state trooper Jay Riggen the bird.
Sgt Riggen was nailed for violating Bombard’s First Amendment rights. The First Amendment protects the right to engage in offensive speech directed at government officials, including profanity and, yes, giving dopey pigs the middle finger.
The Vermont State Police declined to discuss the case, as did former trooper Sergeant Jay Riggen. He took an ‘occupational disability’ related retirement on May 31, a week before the settlement was signed.
